Dragon Crest is a Live Action Role Playing game!
A LARP is a cross between playing table top fantasy games and impromptu theater. Not only are players encouraged to dress their parts, they are rewarded for doing so! Dragon Crest games are set in (roughly) the middle ages, (after the 13th century and the invention of pants) which requires players to create their own armor as well as a "period" costume. Players choose to play any one of six classes, Warrior, Rogue(Thief, Scout, Assassin), Mage, Battle Caster(Fighter-Mage), Ranger (Warrior-Rogue), or Bard(Rogue-Mage). Each Class has it's own attributes. Part of the game's structure is the distinction of the classes... It is very difficult for a Mage, for example, to fight with weapons. Fighting is by means of Boffer swords, bows, pole arms, rocks and daggers. These are made of PVC pipe, open and closed cell foam and Gray Tape. While inexpensive to construct, Boffer Weapons are probably one of the finest toys ever made. Head, hands (in most cases) and the groin are illegal targets, but other than that, any part of your opponent you can reach is fair game. No other physical contact is allowed for safety reasons. The Boffer weapon is the tool of choice for Warriors, Battle Casters, Rogues, Bards and Rangers. Battle Casters, Mages, Rogues and Bards easily engage in combat by throwing spell packets. Spell packets are also easy to assemble (1 tablespoon of birdseed tied into a 6-inch square of white fabric). The spell caster utters the proper incantation (for example, "By the burning of my blood, I curse you with Death!") and throws the packet at his/her target. Assuming the spell hits the target, or his clothing, and the spell is not mis-incanted, the target receives the benefit or damage of the spell. This eliminates messy, game delaying die rolling, and has the added bonus of being great fun! The Wichita Chapter of Dragon Crest holds fighter practice at 2:30 on Saturday afternoons at the north end of Lynnwood Park. (Weather Permitting) Please join us! Or for more immediate information, you may e-mail me. Our game is centered around the town of Crossroads, the only town within the Wüst (a barren, mostly uninhabited... by people at any rate... desert). It is a small village existing on the crossing of the trade route and Lebenstrick (a major river). A dark forest (Gehime Wald) lurks to the southwest, and a range of dangerous mountains (the Black Peaks) are to the northwest. Further enhancing the real estate values of Crossroads are the lizard men infested Mudflats. The First Advisor to the Governor oversees Crossroads.
